DRIVING IN MY CAR
SO WHAT CAR IS ALICE?
This week a quiz for you! I asked everyone here (independently) two questions about which hypothetical car they felt, might best reflect your desire and personality now, and how that may have changed in ten years time. It assumes you would have a choice.
QUESTION 1
If Alice could choose the car that best reflects her current style and level of affordability, what would that be?
Dad: “Easy. A secondhand Volkswagen Golf. The european styling of the Golf would almost certainly appeal to Alice. I don’t think she’d be too fussed over the colour, as long as it wasn’t sage green or beige. She’s definitely a hatchback kinda girl though. The Golf is smallish, but not overly so, and would be a good comfortable size for her.”
Mum: “Well I can picture the one I’m thinking of, but you’ll have to help me with the name…” [a Mazda 3] “Yes that’s it. It’s similar in size, but nicer looking than a Corolla. As it would be much less expensive than its european counterpart, she would be able to afford a much younger car. As for colour, I don’t think she would be very bothered about that, but definitely not brown”
Elliott: “Next year I picture Alice driving around in a Honda Jazz. It’s affordable and much better looking than a Hyundai Getz. It’s also small, easy to park and has really good fuel economy.”
Tristan: “I think Alice would want a red Volkswagen Golf. It’s a pretty cool car and really well made. She’d like that.”
QUESTION 2
What car do you see Alice driving in ten years time? Choose from a current day car (for obvious reasons) that might best reflect where you think she will be, and what she might desire then.
Dad: “In ten years time, when she’s a big name in the world of advertising, Alice will of course be able to afford something better than a Golf. However, I doubt she will opt for too much opulence or anything too big and flashy. I do think she will stick with european styling though, probably German, so I’m going for a BMW 3 Series compact sedan. As she would almost certainly keep it impeccably clean, I’m also going to suggest it would be black. Summing up then, ‘an understated, luxury sedan’ would be her choice criteria.”
Mum: “Hmmm. Not sure. Probably some sort of quality, safe, normal looking white sedan…” [a Volvo C30] “Yes, something like that.”
Elliott: “In 10 years time I definitely see Alice being a ‘roof off’ kind of person. I therefore see her driving a hot white BMW M3 convertible. Expensive I know, but having married Bart she’ll now be rich and able to afford it.”
Tristan: “In ten years time she will be nearly thirty, so I think by then she would really want a Porsche Boxster. It’s not too big, very cool looking and goes really fast.”
