FOOTBALL CRAZY

Last Sunday morning, at the slightly irritating time of 7.30am, Tristan began his football season again. Playing the winners of last year’s grand final, Tris scored a great goal and his team went on to win 5-1. I love watching him play, I hope he never stops. His drumming is progressing well too, and he now taps out endless rhythms on anything. Given that this is driving us nuts, I can hardly wait for the real drums to arrive.

Monday began Twittering, not sure why, maybe because Mum’s so addicted. Don’t have many people following me yet… well two actually, Mum and my mate in Melbourne. I’m enjoying following others though, from Jamie Oliver who was in Sydney this week and can’t spell to save his life, to ALDI with all their latest special deals. Obviously I also follow Uncle Andy, whose witty, daily tweets are a great way to start the day. This morning he tweeted “Earlier today I had 1914 followers, by end the day 1918. Thanks to all who got me through the First World War.” And yesterday… “My 5 yo thinks it’s funny to change Doctor Who’s name to ‘Doctor Poo.’ I think he is some kind of comic genius.”

Tuesday “Fiiive, gol-den, riiings!…”

On Wednesday I took Monte to his regular dog therapy-ing session. He absolutely adores going, despite being forced to eat so much dried liver. As soon as he sees I’m wearing my Delta Society bright red polo shirt, he goes berserk. He leaps and twists in the air as if electrocuted and then starts humping my leg with more than healthy enthusiasm. He’s such a lad! I’ll probably never be able to wear a red shirt again.

Thursday, Tris got his first demerit this term for talking in class. On the positive note, he has accumulated 75 merits and so received his Gold Award two weeks before the end of term.

Elliott has not been home before 11.30pm every night this week due to final rehearsals, then performances of The Producers. Being at NIDA, it’s been a right ol’ rigmarole getting him back of an evening, although we have been able to share lifts with three other cast members. We saw it Friday night and thought it a triumph, despite a few bits of dead wood lurking around. Elliott was excellent, and made the most of his three small roles – none of which involved him dressing-up as a girl… strangely.

Saturday night, Sydney FC won the A-League Grand Final! Woo-hoo! It was a great contest but in the end Sydney were able to find that special something to beat the odds and win down in Melbourne. It was very close though, and was still 1-1 after extra-time; so it went to penalties. Mum was biting her nails and I was watching through my fingers, but in the end we simply scored more than they did. We had planned to visit the Domain later to ‘meet the players’ and see them hold up the trophy, but it clashes with Tristan’s game unfortunately. So it’s all over, no more A-League until August, something that pleases Teacher Mum very much indeed!

PS Speaking of Teacher Mum, her blog ‘Classroom Chronicles’ has been nominated in the ACCE Edsoft Awards at the ACEC2010 Digital Diversity conference she’s going to in the holidays. Go Mum! With her away, I’ll of course be ‘batching’ with the boys, and we plan to get in the Guinness Book of Records for ‘the most consecutive meals involving pizza’.
